Did you know LinkedIn has thousands of jobs and internships listed?

Here’s a great tip for finding opportunities in a geographic area:

  • Log into LinkedIn
  • Click on the Jobs tab at the top of the screen
  • Click on ‘Advanced Search’
  • Enter the zip code of your target work market
  • Enter a keyword (Internship, Marketing, Education, Environment, etc.)
  • Hit ‘SEARCH’

A recent search for opportunities within 10 miles of Boston yielded over 3500 results.
A search of ‘internships’ within in 10 miles of NYC produced over 100 results.

Not all the positions are going to be a perfect match for your search, but you’ll know of firms that are hiring interns, or marketing professionals, or finance related positions – literally anything you’d like to search for.

Cross referencing the employer page for the firms hiring will also tell you about other firms in the same field, often in the same location. Search their websites for positions that might be a good fit for you search. Then search for Bowdoin contacts that work or have worked for the firm in questions. You’ll find that there are dozens of positions out there just waiting for your application.

Give it a try and tell us about your results.
