eBEAR is Now Mobile

eBEAR is now accessible via a mobile app that will give you limited access to your account, but can be tremendously helpful in organizing your productivity in two vital ways. The app is called “Career Search” and is powered by Experience, the company that created the application eBEAR runs on. Find it by searching “Career Search” or “Experience” in the app store. It is a free download! Here are the two vital ways it is helpful:

1) Find jobs and add them to your “favorite” list.

Photo Nov 06, 1 28 07 PMMuch like bookmarking a webpage, your favorites list is populated and maintained by you, the user, and is a great way to hold on to opportunities you find in eBEAR. When you search for openings, which is by keyword only and unfortunately cannot filter out “jobs” or “internships” exclusively, there is a faded star next to each job title. Touch that star (it’ll turn gold) and the posting is added to your “favorites” list.

Then, when you log on to the full version of eBEAR from your laptop, desktop, or tablet device you can access your list by selecting “Favorites” under the “Jobs and Internship” menu at the top of the page.

2) Find events happening on campus in one-touch

EventsThe calendar is quick and easy to access in the app. Just touch “upcoming events” and you instantly get a list of all events offered by the Career Planning Office. This is a lot quicker than trying to access the calendar in the full site, and is a great way for you to plan your week ahead, or find out about opportunities at the last minute.

Technically you can apply for jobs directly on the app. However, you cannot upload new documents so unless you already have the resume and cover letter uploaded to your account, you are out of luck. Since you should be using customized cover letters, this renders the option rather useless. This is mainly why I advise you use the “favorites” list. You can find positions, analyze the requirements, start doing your research and making notes on how you want to draft your application, and then know you have an easy-to-access place to return to the posting once everything is ready for submission.

I suggest you download the app and keep it next to other apps you use regularly. Seeing the icon will remind you to keep up on your internship or full time job search. If anything, use it just for the “events” function. Then you can start ignoring our emails guilt free*!

app

Here is the app as shown in the Apple app store. I believe it is also available on Android, too. Download (for free), and find Bowdoin by entering “Maine” and selecting Bowdoin from the drop down menu. Then you will be asked to log in. Use your normal eBEAR credentials for this. This should only be a one-time thing. You do not have to do this every time you access the app.

As mentioned before, this app was not created by our office but I would still love to hear any feedback on it. Let me know any positive or negative comments you have on it, or how you see it best used in your search.

Happy hunting!

* At least the ones about events. You should still feel guilty about ignoring our emails with jobs and internships
