The U.S. State Department has great internships — in DC and all over the world. Although these are competitive, Bowdoin students have landed State Dept. internships in the past and come back to campus with great things to say about the experience they gained and the people they had the chance to meet. Although the internships are unpaid, you can apply for a Funded Internship, and you may be selected to receive funds from Bowdoin to support your participation.
The State Department Internship Program deadline is November 1st. So it’s time to get started putting together a thorough application.
First, review this .pdf Student Internship Brochure – it details the agencies and all the steps to make a complete application. Second, think about and draft your personal statement, detailing the top two branches or agencies where you’d like to do your internship and what experience or traits you offer. Third, apply online.
