There are some AMAZING internships in DC this summer — and it’s a wonderful place to work. There are lots of smart young people like you, working on important problems and urgent issues. You’ll meet interesting people, make friends, and learn a lot.
But many of them are unpaid. How are you supposed to do that — rent an apartment, buy groceries, and come back to school with enough money for books — while taking an unpaid internship?
Bowdoin wants to help. Alums have donated money to support Funded Internships — including the Ladd Fellowship, which is earmarked for students with an internship at a national public policy institute or think tank, or a federal agency. But there’s also the Frederick Hartwig Memorial Internship — a $1500 prize to any student (from a selective liberal arts school) taking an internship in DC. The winner is identified by an essay contest. Luckily for you, this essay topic is very close to the personal statement you’ll be writing to apply for Bowdoin’s funded internships. We’d love to help you win it! Here’s the application form: Hartwig2014.
